After bringing a little freshness to Lyon via their two ice cream shops Único and Fresco, Julia Canu and Tiago Barbosa, a Corsican-Brazilian duo, are warming up local stomachs with their pastries, which are as enticing as a big hug from your minnà – which means “grandma” in Corsican. Chosen from their seriously loco local and seasonal selection, after some hardcore window shopping: a moist chocolate cookie, homemade of course; an incredible panettone; an adorable pistachio brioche; a good, creamy vanilla flan; along with a delightful ham and cheese puff pastry and a few bastelles, those small Corsican handpies filled with chard and brousse cheese. So many delicious treats that you can either take to go or dig into while seated on one of the barstools, if you’re too impatient to wait until you get home… // Mado Réassouet
The hidden gem: The pão de queijo, a small flavor bomb made using tapioca flour and Comté, that even those with a relentless sweet tooth will love (€3.60 for seven).
