It’s impossible to miss the bright yellow facade of the sister restaurant to Liu Lin (opened in 2019 just a skip and a hop away). Inside, you’ll find the same color gracing everything from the walls to the chairs, pop music playing in the background and a friendly welcome from Hsuan Lin and Michal Mitkowski, as they serve up their entirely vegetarian Taiwanese street food. Aka homemade bao that are fluffy and generously filled: Hot Chick featuring Chicky Saumourai (a chicken substitute in samourai sauce), cucumber, pickles, onions and peanuts; or Jacko Wacko with tender marinated jackfruit and smoked cucumber, whose heat slowly builds on the tongue, before ending in a final kick of flavor. Pair them with some vegetable gyoza with hoisin sauce as an appetizer, followed by warm sesame and coconut mochi for dessert, or maybe even a Buddy Buddy bao with peanut butter and bananas. So good! // Britney Spritz
