Game, set, matcha! Already a stylish tea bar by day, Kage has doubled down to become a theine-powered cocktail bar by night. Behind this well-steeped concept is a duo who drank life to the fullest in Japan: Ping Wang, who also runs the Kafei and Cup 28° coffee shops, and Boupinh Lam, a mixologist and tea leaf expert. From behind the gleaming steel bar, the latter skillfully juggles brewed teas and liqueur bottles, setting the tone with a distinct tea ceremony vibe. You’ll find him sending out drinks like a lightly boozy Hojicha cocktail (hojicha tea, Toki whisky, Graham’s 20-year-old Tawny port, Antica Formula vermouth and chocolate, €16), or a fruity Black Ume Highball (keemun tea, The Chita whisky, umeshu, tonic and black lime, €15). There are also three NA creations featured on the menu, including a zesty Genmaicha & Pomme (genmaicha tea, apple, ginger and lemon, €10). Want something to nibble on as well? There’s salted matcha popcorn (€3.70) or plump tartines slathered in butter, honey, garlic and cheese (€9.50). //
