Hidden at the back of Frenchman Charlie Faron’s bright red hybrid concept store (fashion, music, Salik Studio tattoos) is this café / speakeasy. Once you make your way past the disorienting array of mirrors and neon lights, you’ll discover a chic and enigmatic café behind a beige curtain, decked out with mosaic tile floors and a metal bar topped with a shiny Marzocco machine, plus piles of interior design magazines and bouquets of fresh flowers with the odd stem trying to escape. On the menu, which is screen-printed on fabric, coffee from the neighborhood Wide Awake roastery – served in marbled ceramic cups (which are also available for purchase), each with a flower planted in the handle – hot drinks, like espresso, dirty chai, pour-over, flat whites and matcha (€3 to €6.50) and cold drinks (€5 to €5.50) are both available; along with teas (€3.50), hot chocolate (€5), fresh juice, lemonade, iced teas and smoothies (€2.50 to €5) and homemade pastries – cookies, carrot and banana cakes (€3.50 to €4.50). // Rémi Nigaut
The hidden gem: The Duchess blend, made with beans from Brazil, Guatemala and Ethiopia (€3 for an espresso).
