Another coffee shop for those sporting a Miki hat? Absolutely not! Corica is a far cry from the caffeinated spots that bloom in BX like crocuses in the spring. Here is a family roasting house founded in 1850 that was taken over by Harold Anciaux and his wife Marie-Emerence from Montpellier. With around 20 grinders, an Italian-style counter and a map that would make a geographer green with envy, happiness is bound to be close at hand, whether it’s coming from Papua New Guinea or Ecuador. Apart from the java, you can buy everything you need to make your coffee game shine: Jura machines, Moccamaster, AeroPress, Origami dripper… Plus the discreet but passionate baristas are on hand to advise the eclectic mix of downtown tourists and regulars of all ages and nationalities, be they amateurs or purists. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to get up early each morning. There’s also a second spot at: Brusselsesteenweg 426, 3090 Overijse. // Rocky Simone.
THE HIDDEN GEM: Beans from the province of Sidamo (Ethiopia), prepared as a lungo (€3), to be enjoyed with a mini, ultra-buttery Goulibeur biscuit on the side.
