“Leave the abbey, join the playground,” they said…. Back in 2013, Olivier De Brauwere and Sébastien Morvan rebelled and created BBP. A few feet away from their shop lies their original location in the Dansaert district, where they brew exclusively lambics and gueuzes (head to BBP Port Sud for all the rest). Behind the long, narrow bar, our host for the evening is a fountain of knowledge, endlessly waxing poetic about each of the beers on offer – 24 in total, respect! In the room at the back, think brick walls, wooden tones and vats, with bold splashes of color representing each of their all-star beers, which bring a touch of modernity to the affair. From the list of often rather (overly?) experimental beverages made by this participatory brewery, we were feeling mildly adventurous: Strata Neipa, an awesome New England IPA, followed by a flavor-packed, Japanese-inspired Arigato Tokyo. With a mouth full of chips (€3.50), we have to admit: it’s not bad leaving the abbey every now and again! // Gueuze Van Sant
THE BULLET-PROOF BOTTLE: The renowned Delta, an iconic IPA with tropical notes (€4.80 for 330 ml).
