Back in the 1970s, this was Brussels’ great “American-style” dream project. Fast-forward to the 2020s, and the city is still chasing that same dream! Renovated by Jaspers-Eyers & Partners (the project manager behind the entire Zin renovation project) and refurbished from head to toe by architect Bernard Dubois, one of the World Trade Center towers has come into the hands of The Standard, the Californian-based hotel chain known for its hot properties around the world. And the decor of this one in particular has everything needed to liven up Brussels’ Northern Quarter. So, what’s the pitch? A beautiful retro-futuristic complex that harkens back to 1970s design, including 200 ultra-cozy rooms, with one restaurant on the ground floor – Double Standard – serving an all-day menu of Belgian cuisine with American influences (bone marrow and raclette burger, “croffles,” steak tartare, savory waffles), and another right at the very top, the rooftop restaurant Lila29, which offers Iberian-inspired dishes, cocktails and killer views of the entire city. Quite simply, it’s the best place to experience Brussels, from dusk till dawn! Double rooms starting at €142. // Léa Ranchini
