Cupboards bare? When the evening munchies strike, hungry bellies would usually run to the local corner shop. Ditch that idea… instead head to Rue de Flandre before night falls, to hit the spot right and in style – provided you find a seat at the often-crowded Nightshop! At this old, tiled and concrete-laden garage, dimly lit by candlelight and with wine bottles scattered about, designer-sommelier Jocasta Allwood (partner to coffee roaster Jens Crabbé, at MOK opposite) cultivates the art of entertaining – London-style, in an unfussy yet stylish way. What’s coming out of the kitchen? The same unabashed cool, featuring the following plates the night we went: small grilled artichokes met coarse salt and an aioli dip; followed by roast potatoes smashed in a chervil cream pimped out with a smoky oil; before a chocolate-hazelnut tart with whipped cream. Good to know: on the last Sunday of the month, the Neapolitan pizza-yolo Luca Fabozzi comes to get his hands dirty! // Molly Kale
FEELING THIRSTY? Some knockout wines: Quarticello lambrusco rosé (€6.50 a glass), Raffut, an Ardèche Syrah from Sylvain Bock (€11), an Austrian skin-contact wine from Michi’s Farm (€32 a bottle)… And certainly no Coke Zero, insists the boss!
PRICE: Dishes €6.50 to €19.50, desserts €9 to €9,50. Reservations via Instagram for parties of four or more.
