Mazette ! is the brand new spot from Maximillien Mosbach (who used to work at Café Brunet in Annecy-le-Vieux) and Laura Hatt. It’s a small bistro with wood-paneled, stone and brick walls that proudly shows off its blackboard menu of the day. Take the day we went for lunch, with a mouthwatering homemade pâté en croute (a better choice than the slice of stewed tomato tart with shaved fennel, which was a little bland); followed by some outstanding chicken (from the Lavorels in Ollières) that was roasted with potatoes in goose fat; or a gigantic pike quenelle with a beautiful crust, placed atop fresh spinach, button mushrooms cooked in butter, and an emulsified matelote sauce; and end the meal with one of Laura’s desserts (who trained under Chevallot, awarded the prestigious Meilleur Ouvrier de France title), like crêpe Suzette, or a dessert of chocolate sorbet, mousse and cream, with caramelized hazelnuts and a cookie, all sweetened by crème anglaise. // Damien Sorin

FEELING THIRSTY? Served by the glass, there’s a Savoie Mondeuse from Les Fils de Charles Trosset (€8 a glass) or an Alsatian Riesling from Mosbach (€6) and, by the bottle, an Apremont from the Domaine Jean Masson (€30), a Faugères from Léon Barral (€58) or Pinot H, an Alsace from Josmeyer (€60).
