Where’s the most rock’n’roll breakfast in town? After covering all his bases at Bistro Kastrol and Zero53, serial restaurateur Steven Vijverman came to a natural conclusion with this diner in Antwerp, (almost) like you’d find over in the US of A, complete with a royal blue counter, chrome bar stools and branded mugs. On top of that, manning the griddle is Americanophile Thomas Van de Weyer (ex-Vis van A and Octave), who brings Route 66 to Belgium for rumbling bellies: a classic cheeseburger with a soft and squishy bun, stacked with a smashed beef patty (the meat is from Australia – a darn shame!), cheddar, pickles and onions; or a triumphant cheesesteak like you’d get in Philly – a sammie stuffed with Angus steak, cheddar and green peppers, made on tasty bread from the De Bakkerji bakery. Order with optional sides, like huuuuuge sandwich pickles, Swet hot sauce or Bonilla a la Vista gourmet potato chips. Early riser? The thick and fluffy buttermilk pancakes drizzled in maple syrup and topped with eggs and bacon are the American dream! // Kiko Zushi
