Armand Crespo’s best-kept secret is just a stone’s throw from Cours Saleya: a wine shop with arched ceilings, a central communal table and a cave painting-style mural, where Nice’s serial-bistrotter (Bar des Oiseaux, Bistrot d’Antoine and Peixes) serves aperitivi on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. The pitch? Pay for your beverages and everything else is on the house! The other day: an incredible homemade veal liver pâté served with good bread from Chez Maître Pierre; freshly sliced backcountry ham and coppa; outstanding morel mushroom saucisson; perfect fresh goat cheese with olive oil and rosemary… All served again and again over the course of the evening by the cheeky waiters. // E.DiB.
FEELING THIRSTY? A strong biodynamic wine list: a Costières-de-Nîmes red from Le Clos des Boutes, a Provence rosé from the Domaine La Goujonne (€5 for each glass), an Hérault red from Le Clos Maïa (€21 a bottle), a Burgundy Aligoté from Fabien Coche (€27), an Apulian orange wine from Progetto Calcarius (€32)…
