After falling into the capable hands of Rachel Gariglio (who used to work here as a waitress), Le Bistrot des Claquets (a zinc-topped bar, Formica tables) has been attracting Arbois’ gourmet diners like a powerful magnet – even more so since we’ve been barred from vacationing outside of France under the reign of COVID-19…. Global pandemic or not, you’ll still find the same mouthwatering menu ouvrier at this bistro! The other day at lunch: an unchanging appetizer buffet – garden tomato or multicolored carrot salads, incredible chicken liver terrine; a saucy beef goulash with carrots, skin-on potatoes and a spoonful of herbed yogurt for the gallant dish of the day; before a deliciously rustic chocolate mousse for dessert. Cheese and charcuterie boards are also available at the end of the day: saucisson, carefully selected cheeses including Comté, gruyère, blue cheese, goat cheese, etc. // S.L.
FEELING THIRSTY? Shelves of wine that are overflowing with options from the region and a little further away: a Chardonnay from La Fruitière Vinicole d’Arbois (€3.80 a glass), a Beaujolais from Raphaël Beysang (€24 a liter), a Franc-Comté red from Etienne Thiébaud in Cramans (€24 a bottle), Léon, an Arbois white from the Domaine Les Bottes Rouges (€36).
PRICE: Menus €14-18 (lunch), apéro boards €5-13 (dinner).
