Marco Lung (ex-Kyatcha in Rotterdam) took refuge in the heart of the Schipperskwartier district with this tiny Japanese restaurant featuring minimalist interior design and rice paper lanterns shaped like little moons. The chef reaches for the stars with tasting platters that can devoured in house or taken to go: classic sushi, excellent tuna, hamachi or salmon sashimi, ultra-simple maki and nigiri, freshly grated wasabi… And it’s definitely worth a visit! On the menu: kanimi rolls with avocado, cucumber and crispy shrimp tempura on top; uramaki of spicy tuna, shichimi (a Japanese seven-spice blend) and negi (scallions); flame-charred salted yellowfin tuna sushi; or even asparagus, arugula and cherry tomato tempura rolled up in a thin slice of beef and then flame-charred, all sprinkled with scallions and black truffles. Aka Marco’s revisited version of tagliata. Itadakimasu! // Kiko Zushi
FEELING THIRSTY? A large selection of hard-to-find sakes: a sweet and elegant junmai ginjo by Kikusui Shuzo (€20 for 300 ml), a Tokusen Taru aged in cedar barrels by Kiku-Masamune (€18 for 300 ml)… And if you want to test out Japanese brews, opt for the yuzu-infused Hana Awaka from the Ozeki brewery (same price).
PRICE: Otsumami (small appetizers) €9-23, sushi platters €38-108, à la carte €8-13 (two pieces), €13-17 (four pieces).
