A London-style bakerie in the heart of Antwerp? After proving a hit in Lierre and then on Antwerp’s Eilandje, self-taught bakers Jesse Fraser and Giovanni Smet have settled a few streets away in a space with unmistakable British charm, complete with wooden apothecary cabinets and marble-topped cast-iron bistro tables. Here, Belgian classics make way for pastries and Irish-style soda bread that’s dense, hearty and naturally unleavened. On the menu? Faultless croissants packed with buttery layers; plus brioche spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, orange and lemon zest, and a sprinkling of raisins, that’s a Fridays-and-Saturdays-only affair. To pair? A cortado made from Cross Roast beans, of course. · Ross Beef
Hidden gem: The hot cross bun, fragrant with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, citrus zest, raisins and candied fruit – so good it should never be confined to Easter (€3.50).
