Still not over your vacation to Latin America last year? Take a trip down memory lane at Pueblo Latino, a true El Dorado filled with top-notch goodies. Behind the window display that doesn’t really catch the eye, Ruben Alberto Zapata has been running this shop for nearly two decades, where the shelves and bins are filled with a wealth of products from South and Central America – from Mexico to Argentina, stopping off in the Dominican Republic, Equator and Brazil along the way. A few choice morsels: passion fruit (maracuya) or lulo (naranjilla) pulps that are just waiting to be blended; fifty-some caliente varieties of hot sauce (Valentina, Cholula, Botanera); XXL jars of pickled jalapeños and green olives; silky dulce de leche; refried beans to go with your delicious corn tortillas; not to mention all the spices you need for your burritos, along with a wide selection of dried chilies… and a few homemade treats at the back, like the pan de queso that’ll fill you with warmth. Faced with so many delicious choices, it’s hard not to splurge bigtime. // Suzette Follet
The hidden gem: The homemade empanadas, made with corn flour and stuffed with meat and potatoes, plus hot sauce (€1.20 each).
