Fringe was a no-brainer for Jeff Hargrove, an American photographer who first caffeinated Paris before adjusting his focus to another capital city… the capital of photography that is! The setting here in Arles? Colorful photographs on white walls and black furniture on the terrace, which match the specialty brews served starting early in the morning – mostly made using beans from the Antwerp roasters Rush Rush, or the Dublin roasters Sumo, prepared as both espresso and cold brew. What about something to eat? Jeff has thought of everything, with viennoiseries straight from the bakery Le Sauvage, and at lunch, baguette sandwiches for a quick bite to eat. Hot tip: on Sunday nights, he serves bottles of expertly chosen natural wine (like La Baignade, a chenin from the Les Errances winery at €7 a glass, or Frauenpower, a sparkling German red produced by Alanna Lagamba at €40 a bottle), which go down easy with the cheese of the day from Les Fromagères and focaccia from the Levain bakery. // Angela Dolu
THE HIDDEN GEM: A thirst-quenching espresso tonic with notes of bergamot, mandarin and cucumber (€6 a glass).
