Here in Nancy, a sustainably-minded dairy run by former sales rep Mathieu Volodimer champions the region’s stinky gems (made with high-quality milk from hay-fed cows at La Ferme Romé, located less than 25 kilometers away), all sold at fair prices. Think tender, perfectly rounded Petit Stan galets or tomme cheese aged for six weeks… All of which can be mixed and matched on a post-dinner cheese board, featuring tasty treats like farm-fresh Munster, walnut Brie, smoked Raclette, Bleu du Vercors or a beautiful slice of Reblochon. Also up for grabs: fontainebleau dessert, yogurts and rice pudding, and even a few pantry staples, like Mirabio mirabelle plum jam and local beers from Le Der. // Megan Linar
THE HIDDEN GEM: The very creamy yogurts infused with herbs and spices – turmeric and ginger the day we went (€4.40 each).
