It took quite a bit of nerve and a good knowledge of wines to open up a natural wine shop in Molsheim, which is better known for the revving of its engines (the village is the birthplace of Bugatti) than for its eco-friendly convictions… But that was the challenge sommelier Pierre Jacob (who used to work at Les Caves Augé in Paris) and the Alsatian winemaker Jerôme Neumeyer decided to take on, who built this wine shop with 400 labels from across France’s various regions. There are plenty of local bottles to explore, of course (Le Schlouk, a gewürztraminer-riesling blend from the Domaine Geschickt at €18, Hagel, a pinot gris from the Rieffels at €16.10), along with striking champagnes (Sève from Olivier Horiot at €54), beautiful bottles from the Jura (Savagnin En Quatre Vis from the Domaine des Marnes Blanches at €29) or the Loire (a saumur blanc from Le Clos de l’Écotard at €27), and even a few well-chosen spirits – like the Ferroni rum from Marseille (€68) or the Concordia de Damoiseau rum from Guadeloupe (€42). And if you want to take things a little further, the Musée de la Chartreuse is only 200 meters away! // Gwen Jacquère
THE BULLET-PROOF BOTTLE: Granite, a spirited pinot blanc from the Rieffels (€20).
