Looking for some decent natural wine in Nancy? Head to the old town – to Vindiou, of course! This crafty two-story spot with a terrace to boot is the brainchild of well-sourced wine enthusiast Nicolas Perrin, who sure delivers the goods: stone walls, wooden shelves, a raucous metal soundtrack and wine racks overflowing with bottles wherever you look. The wine and beer list is impressive: whites like an aligoté from Domaine Perraud (€7 a glass) or a crozes-hermitage from Habrard (€38 a bottle); reds such as a fronton from the La Colombière (€32); plus Natka, a pet’ nat by Théophile Drach that’ll put a natural fizz in your step (€29). Feeling peckish? The ultra-generous mixed platters (€33) are the epitome of a great deal. And when the clock strikes seven, it’s time for the short seasonal menu (€8-14): onion tarte tatin and cervelle de canut cheese; mega-creamy risotto with parsley-flecked oyster mushrooms; razor clams with parsnip velouté and chorizo foam; or a delicate damson plum tart. Serious stuff for a joyfully uninhibited spot. · Megan Linar
