“How’s it going?” asks the bartender. Way out yonder in the depths of Etterbeek, we have to admit, things are going pretty well at CoHop! In the historic Arsenal building, Brussels’ very first microbrewery cooperative brings together Witloof, Janine (a microbrewery AND bakery), 1Bière 2Tartines, and DrinkThatBeer (which has also gone rogue with its thirst-quenching bar La Bagarre in Saint-Gilles). There is strength in numbers, as the menu features more than 20 beers on tap! Launched in 2020, the idea was for several craft and microbreweries to team up in the capital and pool their resources, while spearheading an eco-friendly approach to beer making. The night we went, the bar was packed, firing out pints brewed with unsold bread from Janine bakery, or a delightfully spicy Chipote-Les from Witloof. As for the snacks, there are sandwiches (made with bread from Janine, of course!) and South American street food over at Iskay. Another round, please! // Gueuze Van Sant
THE BULLET-PROOF BOTTLE : Decisions, decisions…. It’s a tough call among this all-star cast, but Claque, a DDH IPA from Witloof (€7.30 for 330 ml), truly knocked us for a loop!
