Do you know Place Saint-Antoine in the Etterbeek neighborhood? Well, two French friends, Brian Variengien and Thomas Breton, are bringing a little life to this part of the city with their brand-new locally-sourced cheese shop & épicerie, where they aim to provide quality eats at reasonable prices. Inside? There’s a big counter display where they have fifty cheeses lined up, along with ham, salami and other dried charcuterie, artisan JJ Looze coffee beans, tinned Lago Paganini fish or meat from Les Conservistes, and Aixandri olive oil… Not to mention the Lambic vinegar from Sainte Odile or the Brussels-made SWET hot sauce. A few deli sandwiches are also up for grabs: Liège blood sausage, syrup, mustard and apples; or a classic baked ham and salted butter sandwich on baguette. Kiko Zushi
The hidden gem: Ardi-Gasna, a Basque sheep’s milk cheese whose rind is rubbed in piment d’Espelette (€48/kg).
