THE STORY: A legendary spot in Pyla-sur-Mer, the Hôtel Haïza (which means “rock” in Basque) was just reborn thanks to Sophie and William Techoueyres, who already run La Co(o)niche, 500 meters away. Once again, this duo has placed their trust in Philippe Starck, who transformed the immense neo-Basque chalet into a diverse life space. With, to begin, a reception area/art gallery brought to life by colorful stained glass windows, a Grand Salon decorated with family heirlooms and African pieces, a glass-ceilinged restaurant — the Skiff Club —, and bedrooms done up with a calculated sense of simplicity (light wood, braided furniture, immaculate white sheets), accented by the African rugs. Double rooms starting at €195 a night.
TOILETRIES: Ren shower gel, shampoo and soap.
INTERNET: Wifi (free).
BREAKFAST: €25 – buffet with hot drinks, breads, fresh fruit juices, clafoutis tarts, brioche, sweet crêpes, smoked salmon, eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit salad…
MINI-BAR: Champagne, beer, Les Abatilles mineral water, sodas, Alain Millat fruit juices, Charity Black iced tea, Lemon-Aid, plus a coffee machine.
LITTLE LUXURY: The hotel’s concept store, where you’ll find a clever selection of cosmetics, clothing, accessories and home décor objects (Sweetpants, See Concept, March…).
