The wave of living wines? Pierre Bouen has been riding it from his wine shop in Soorts-Hossegor, a few kilometers away from La Gravière’s epic tubes. In his 750-strong collection, you’ll find wines made locally (Domaine de La Pointe in Capbreton, Bixente Indart in Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry) along with some from other regions, with the Southwest leading the pack – Bouche de Soleil, a Côtes-Catalanes white from Les Enfants Sauvages (€24), Serpent à Plumes, a cahors from the Domaine La Calmette (€16)… The beers and spirits aren’t bad either, notably the Raduga beers (€3.90 to €5.60 for 500 ml), and the Juniperus gin from Bear Brothers (€45 for 500 ml). And what about something to munch on? Grab some Landes-made tomme de brebis crackers, paired with some Maison Bigand dips, so you have something to eat on your way back from the beach! // Carla Fouti
THE BULLET-PROOF BOTTLE: Errai, a grenache blanc from the Navarre winery Bardea Etxaldea, with citrus and nutty notes revealed by a 20-day maceration period (€19).
