THE STORY: Does dining at Café Commercial (winner of Le Fooding’s 2024 Belgium guide’s Biggest Crush award) leave you feeling like you don’t want to go home? Luckily enough, now there’s no need to leave, since the boss Davy Schellemans and his partner Leen de Waele have rustled up a studio apartment directly above the restaurant! In the heart of the old slaughterhouse district, this little gem of good taste combines matte wood, polished concrete and low lighting, while ticking all the boxes for a proper getaway: a large double bed with round canopy curtains, a sublime open bathroom for splashing about to your heart’s content, a pretty little kitchenette that’s equally well-stacked (filter coffee machine, hotplates, fridge, dining table, etc.), and also the chance to simply let your mind roam free, with a relaxing wellness space surrounded by huge floor-to-ceiling windows… which open onto a rooftop garden overgrown with lush greenery, urban jungle-style. You have been warned: the hardest part will be packing your suitcase goodbye. Double rooms starting at €180 per night.
TOILETRIES: Aesop soap, body wash and shampoo.
BREAKFAST: Mok coffee, tea, yogurts and granola await you in the kitchenette, so dig in; otherwise, if the mood strikes you, head to Quite Frankly (Le Fooding Guide’s Best Finger-lickin’ Good Spot 2024) to start your day the American way.
LITTLE LUXURY: Splash about in the huge, round, powder pink bathtub… the bathtub of dreams!
