Café Palto

Helaba! Remove your coats and grab a seat at this cozy stamcafé run by Geralda De Vos. After having brought Place Saint-Lambert to life with her caravan bar Parvis 58, she has now opened up a brick-and-mortar spot dressed to nines in vintage gear (original tile floors, a wooden bar, bric-a-brac furniture, lush green plants and the famous overcoat in the form of a sculpture, hanging from the ceiling), with a playlist of Cat Power and Radiohead. Locals come to wet their whistle, while also checking out the art exhibition on display, a live gig or even a tea dance. Basically, there is something for everyone, whatever way inclined. The day we went for lunch, the (short) menu featured: ultra-aromatic vegetarian phô which had the desired effect; a simple croque monsieur in either the classic ham and cheese version, or zucchini and pesto for the meat-free option; followed by a comforting chocolate lava cake from Le Bar à Tartes, paired with a double shot of Brazilian espresso from Mok. If you’re good, Geralda might even gift you a bit of scoby, along with her famous kombucha recipe on the sly, so you can make your own at home. Tof hé! // Olive Merret
