After the success of his restaurant Le P’tit Canon in the 17th arrondissement, Benjamin Menut (ex-Les Marches, Bambini) brought his personalized French touch to Chez Martine, an authentic Parisian bistro located just a stone’s throw from the Trocadéro – combining a zinc-topped wooden bar, gingham tablecloths, small bistro wine glasses and art deco light fixtures. On the plates, expect expertly prepared, seasonal classics – the day we went for lunch, the bistro feast sent out by chef Florent Durand (ex-La Cantine ô Moines in Vertou and L’Auberge du Château in Clisson) included all of the following: delicately seasoned oeufs mayo topped with pickled mustard seeds; tender dry-aged sirloin steak that was cooked to perfection and served with chimichurri and a generous heap of classic fries; then, to end the meal, a comforting, old-fashioned cherry clafoutis. It’s worth noting that on Friday nights, the owner cranks up the music to liven up the neighborhood! // Madeleine Proust

FEELING THIRSTY? Good options, some of which are organic: a gamay from Richard Meyrany (€7 a glass), a Beaujolais red from the Domaine de Fa (€52 a bottle), a Sancerre white from the Domaine Raimbault Pineau (€45)… And for a digestif, there’s a large selection of chartreuse liqueurs, since the owner is a fan (€12-27).
PRICE: : Set menu €22 (weekday lunch), appetizers €7.50 to €18, mains €20-40, desserts €9-20.
