A group of friends, a few colleagues and a priest walk into a neighborhood restaurant. This is not the opening line of a joke, but a snapshot of Familia, the spring day we went for lunch. Brick walls, parquet flooring, bouquets of fresh flowers and smooth jazz… At Sabrina Pereira-Alves’ place, the menu gets changed up every week, depending on what produce and ingredients are available from local shops and producers. The day we went for lunch, there were baguette sandwiches (with bread from the Blond bakery) filled with curried chicken or smashed sweet potatoes; a soup (broccoli and lemon cream); and nice little plates, like vegetarian lasagna; or some tender kefta-stuffed peppers in tomato sauce, served with spelt wheat on the side. For dessert, there’s always a cake of the day – tarte Tatin or carrot cake when we visited. And at brunch, granola, classic pancakes topped with fresh fruit or eggs Benedict. // Rémi Nigaut
