Who’d a thunk it?! After years of running around the markets in his truck, Jacques le Fromager (his real name is Defrenne) has partially settled down on Rue des Alliés, on the first floor of a mechanic’s garage. Here he dishes out his sage advice (sometimes a little forthright, but always friendly) along with his cheeses that come from all over Europe or that ooze local terroir – like those from the Gros Chêne dairy farm in Havelange. And to go with all that? Charcuterie imported from Umbria, fresh eggs, tasty bread from Benoît Segonds and even Cantillon gueuze beers, to be served at the end of a meal. There’s more: the shop sometimes welcomes friends for communal dining sittings and raclette parties! Sound too good to be true? You better brie-live it!// Rocky Simone
THE HIDDEN GEM: Shropshire, a soft orangey blue cheese of Scottish origin (€42.50 per kg).
