Now here’s a banging spot that’s bringing the Forest neighborhood to life! Épicerie Horta owes its name to the Lusitanian word for “vegetable garden” (and not to the Art Nouveau architect) and is Yudra Guerreiro’s baby, born on May 3rd, 2022. So, what’s in store? Portuguese products – and so much more! You’ll also find bread from Le Bon Pain during the week, pastries from Jeanine and La Boule on the weekends, Coffee Roasters coffee, beers from the Brasserie de la Senne, Surréaliste and Drink Drink, and Algarve orange wine aged in amphora from Alagoa Velha. There’s also a refrigerated display counter as you enter the shop, filled with delicious quiches from Luka, plus organic vegetables from Biofresh and summer fruits from Smala in Anderlecht out back, as well as grocery products dotted all around – sardines, olives and fleur de sel from Santos, and Brussels’ own Swet hot sauces. Oh! And don’t forget about the pasteis de nata from Forcado (€2.50). // Mary Martin
THE HIDDEN GEM: Jellyfish, a Portuguese cider from Daughters of Madness, an alchemy of rosé wine and a dash of pasteurized seawater for some salinity (€16.75).
