After a grand tour of the US searching for the best recipes, burger-loving brothers Maidi, Ramzi and Wissem Tabakh set up their dream restaurant in the humdrum Joliette neighborhood. As for the decor, it won’t exactly throw you for a loop: a Polly-Pocket-sized dining room, a pink and yellow theme, waxed concrete floors and a nice little terrace. And placing an order might do your head in: sit down, scan the QR code, choose your burger from the app (when it’s working, that is!), and then stand in line to pay… But for the love of sandwiches, they know how to make a smash burger! The buns are baked fresh every morning, the Charolaise or Limousine beef is crisped up for a few seconds on the smoking hot griddle (tender on the inside and crispy on the outside), the sauces are all homemade (mayonnaise, ranch, BBQ, etc.), the cheddar is aged in Somerset, the fries are dusted in Cajun spices… We opted for an excellent Holy Cheeseburger, which piled up a smashed beef patty, farm-fresh cheddar aged for nine months, lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles; along with a hearty Smoky Blue Cheese burger with melted stilton, balsamic caramelized onions, maple candied bacon and garlic mayonnaise. Seen on other nearby tables: fried chicken like you’d get in Louisiana, a veggie burger (featuring a fried quinoa, mushroom and parmesan patty). And to finish, an indecently good Valrhona dark chocolate brownie with the homemade sauce of your choosing. // Gwen Jacquère
