Chicken and beef skewers, homemade fries and dipping sauces, artisan bread, German beer, Fritz Cola… This Berlin-style kebab shop took its time crossing the border (which really isn’t that far away)! But since all’s well that ends well, you can now indulge in a döner kebab at Kebs Baba, prepared four different ways, all of which are packed full of veggies: the original “Kebs du bled” with red onions and sumac; the excellent “Gemüse” with feta, marinated red cabbage, fried vegetables, pomegranate and lemon juice; the “Kipïk” with a spicy sauce and fried chilies; or the “Magnifique” with eggplant caviar, sumac, pomegranate and lemon juice… All of which are accompanied by some good homemade double-fried French fries, eggplant caviar, Cypriot halloumi or haydari – a garlicky yogurt with fresh herbs. Help it all slide down with a slice of pistachio tiramisu, rice pudding or Turkish coffee afterwards, in a space that feels more like a popular fast food joint than a neighborhood kebab shop: the indoor and outdoor dining areas are both massive, there are blue and red neon lights, plus Turkish pottery scattered around… // Gwen Jacquère
