In the photogenic village of Lourmarin, the Hôtel Le Moulin – a property of the Beaumier group – was inaugurated in July of 2021 just across from the château. It’s a magnificent building decorated by Jaune agency and Bepoles studio (ocher tones, braided furniture, jute shade covers), where the young chef Julien Serry (ex-Sur Mer in Paris) plays with the four seasons in the restaurant on the ground floor. Served à la carte the night we went: a splendid fougasse warmed up on the barbecue, served with a graceful eggplant caviar for dipping; local zucchini carpaccio with brousse du Rove cheese and a rather bland mint pistou; mussels from Bouzigues plunged into a lemongrass and Thai basil broth; a fat pork chop dry-aged in hay and cooked over wood charcoal, served with mashed potatoes or ratatouille; before a dessert that combined raw and roasted peach slices, a crumble topping and a somewhat old school lemon espuma. // A.A.
FEELING THIRSTY? No fewer than 14 wines served by the glass: a 2015 Fleury dry rosé Champagne (€15 a flute), À Pétrolette, a Gaillac rosé pet’ nat’ from the Domaine de l’Arpette (€8 a glass), Métaphysique, a Côtes-du-Rhône red from Julie Karsten (€8).
PRICE: À la carte €45-56.
