Aurélie and Jonathan Thomassin are expanding their caféological empire! After the no-nonsense slogan of their initial venture, Première Édition – “Come. Eat. Drink.” – their new little sister spot leans into a more Lynchian spirit, proudly splashing “A damn fine cup of coffee” in all caps across the storefront. It’s a promise this teeny-tiny, blond-wood-clad spot delivers with ease, serving up expertly brewed coffee – whether pulled on a Marzocco espresso machine or filtered through a V60 – using well-traveled beans roasted by La Tisserie in Marseille. There’s plenty to enjoy all day long, from thoughtfully made gluten-heavy treats like the “flat bread jam session” stuffed with homemade ricotta, fresh fruit and a comforting homemade strawberry or apricot marmalade for breakfast, to the pita sandwiches prepared fresh at lunch, or delicious cookies, plump scones and decadent banana bread for late-afternoon snacks. Not to mention the outstanding granola (hazelnuts, almonds, pecans, oats and sunflower seeds), or the to-go bags of beans if you’d rather brew coffee yourself at home. In short, a damn fine café for a damn fine cup of coffee. // Marcellin Caillou
THE HIDDEN GEM: The black sesame cookie (€4.50), warmed up right before serving to double the yum factor, a true atomic flavor bomb!
