Mademoiselle Wine

A pitch-black facade graced with stylized white lettering – you could easily mistake this wine shop in the very chic center of Aix-en-Provence for a little-known boutique perfumery. But a closer look once you’ve adjusted your glasses reveals something else entirely: an elegant wine shop lovingly curated by Aurélia Gauthier, when she’s not at her shop on Marseille’s corniche. Seen or sipped the day we went: Tout Feu Tout Femme, a flamboyant Rhone grenache by Laura Aillaud (€19), Rive Gauche, a highly drinkable Champagne from Bérêche et Fils (€70), along with Kinowa junmai sake from Schichihonyari, one of the oldest brewers in Japan (€48)… And Maison Martin hot sauces to add a little spice to your life. // Maria Mariaux

THE BULLET-PROOF BOTTLE: Galinette, a lovely coteaux-d’aix white from the Domaine de Sulauze (€16).
