Feel like having one of the best meals of the summer? You’ve got to earn it! After parking at the top of a hill, trudging along a poorly maintained path, asking yourself if you didn’t miss the turn right before the laurel tree, and admiring the incredible views of the Vermeille Coast along the way, L’Imprévue finally reveals itself. And what a sight for sore eyes! This guinguette is illuminated by a gaggle of paper lanterns dancing in the wind, located below the bohemian Alma hotel. To make things even better, the cuisine from the irreducible Mathieu Perez – the former chef of Percherons in Céret (and winner of the Fooding d’amour prize in 2015) – will leave you flabbergasted. Sent out the night we went from his straw hut: first-rate tomatoes with smoked fromage frais; freshly made socca with an incredible lingot bean hummus for dipping; a cod lomo served with roasted tomatoes and a creamy romesco sauce; Iberica pluma pork that melts like butter, served with some lovely charred eggplant, fresh figs and yogurt; before a surprising chocolate ganache / corn / black olive dessert. A feast that was embraced by the blazing sunset… In short, a feast for your eyes and your belly! // Mado Réassouet
