L'Epicerie au Bon Manger
There’s a UFO on planet Reims! Aline and Eric Serva have been combatting bad food with stellar products and 100% natural wines for the past ten light years now! Their immaculate little wine shop/fine foods store (a royal blue façade, Formica tables, all kinds of jars and bottles) finely demonstrates this with a whole host of Scottish salmon, Auvergne cured meats from Emmanuel Chavassieux and aged cheeses from Philippe Olivier all parading out… And for all those still harboring doubts, come for lunch, which was a very Basque demonstration the day we went. To start, there was an incredible Ibaïama pork terrine (€8); followed by boudin noir with piment d’Espelette by Eric Ospital, lightly roasted in the oven and served with tender sautéed potatoes (€17); before some superb cheeses (Langres, Basque brebis and Rove des Garrigues, €9) and a perfect dark Vietnamese chocolate mousse (€5). You can’t go wrong with the drinks, because all the big shots are there: Milan Nestarec, Jordi Perez, Alice Bouvot, Jérôme Prévost… And if you still have hesitations, let the owner decide for you! Glasses starting at €7, bottles at €15, corkage €8. À la carte €29-43. // T.A.
