Overlooking the Torreilles nudist beach (which is never crowded, not even on August 15th!), the Zaza Club checks off all the boxes for beachside cool. Think parasols and deck chairs for rent, and best of all, big wooden tables, white couches, fresh fish and chilled wines. For us, the day we went for lunch: a very fresh prawn carpaccio seasoned with olive oil; charred Padrón peppers sprinkled with sea salt; gilt-head bream grilled whole on the plancha, paired with an ultra-tender tomato and eggplant tian – or zarzuela de mariscos (seafood stew) served in the pan for the table, with potatoes, big prawns, clams, cuttlefish, mussels and flash-seared cod; before a very simple limoncello sorbet for dessert. // P.L. and C.D.
FEELING THIRSTY? Wines that can’t exactly be described as a bargain: an Aude Macabeau from the Domaine Ledogar (€7 a glass), a Côtes-du-Roussillon-villages from the Domaine Gauby (€45 a bottle), a natural dry Drappier Champagne (€85)… Or even American Bud beer (€4 for 330 ml).
PRICE: À la carte €33-64.
