Across from the town hall in the village of Maubec (1,914 inhabitants), Claire Berger and her chef mother, Najia Taamallah, run the most charming village café in the land! Under the arbor humming with cicadas, or inside with all the antiques (school chairs, mismatched tables, terrazzo floors), the two Vaucluse natives serve a generous locally sourced lunch option that’s spot on: a chilled potato velouté sprinkled with summer truffle; sensational grilled pork saddle topped with a cheese cream and served with delicious browned new potatoes and carrots; before a comforting dessert of ripe apricots with refreshing homemade vanilla ice cream for the sweet finish… // Aïtor Alfonso

FEELING THIRSTY? There are a few carefully chosen wines: a lively white Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages from the Domaine La Florane (€5.50 a glass), a red Ventoux from the Domaine Chapelle Saint-Heyries (€22 a bottle)…
