The caffeine king of Pantin? It’s Anbassa (“lion” in Ethiopian), a small sovereign palace located a stone’s throw from the Canal de l’Ourcq, where you can get your hands on Sylvain Chauvineau’s specialty coffees. Good beans without the chaff, roasted and brewed all day long from behind the tawny Italian brick bar under an incredible glass domed ceiling from the 1930s. Take one to go or sip in house: Peruvian or Brazilian java, lesser-known varieties grown in Mexico or India, along with exceptional Rwandan and Colombian harvests. There are also plenty of options for tea lovers, who can choose between 150 types from Dammann Frères tea, for spice enthusiasts, who can explore the lovely selection of Terre Exotique spices – and for fans of drip coffee, there are several different colors of the Moccamaster and Japanese Hario V60s. // Angela Lodu

THE HIDDEN GEM: The nitro coffee (€6), aka cold brew infused with nitrogen gas!
