Nestled between a tattoo parlor and a sex shop, Johan Van de Velde’s De Eendracht fishmonger’s is the place to go for a taste of the sea on Hoogstraat, today still stocked with herring marinated on the bone or eel cooked in homemade green sauce – delicacies that have become all too rare. Leonard Van Dis has been running the shop for five years, and his counter is supplied daily with fish fresh from the North Sea and seafood from Yerseke: very fresh oysters, mussels, cockles and gray prawns sold by weight, plus lobster, as well as salmon and eel smoked on site, fisherman’s soup and first-class croquettes. The added bonus? Leo’s valuable advice, so you know the best way to cook everything without screwing it up! // Kiko Zushi
