If you name your épicerie “Goods,” you’d better stock it with the utmost care… Luckily, that was a breeze for Joel Rammelsberg and Louis Leysen, the duo behind Savage. Together with baker and pastry chef Alice Jaroszuk, they cooked up a first-rate selection for this little shop with a futurist feel, a cross between a bakery and a grocer’s, located across the street from their restaurant. You’re sure to find what you’re looking for there: for a proper dinner opt for the artisan canned or jarred goods, like the explosively flavorful endive kimchi or the olé-olé spicy butternut squash jam; for a quick lunch, grab a plump brioche sandwich filled with homemade beef meatballs, spinach and chervil, plus chervil mayonnaise and pickled onions – but the vegetarian version, featuring raw endives and aged goat’s cheese, is just as tasty; and for a simple daytime snack, a comforting cream puff filled with crème pâtissière and topped with caramel, or a creamy pecan tartlet. Word to the wise? Brunch is served from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, and it’s a great excuse to test out the goods! // Joséphine Espe
The hidden gem: The brioche French toast, almost too fluffy to be real, glazed in an incredible caramel sauce (€5).
