Les travailleurs de l'amer (Les Pieux)

Where can you meet the Parisian agricultural engineer and documentary filmmaker Yann-Arthus Bertrand ever since he changed careers? In a wooden building on the edge of the Cotentin Peninsula, where Yann-Arthus, Guillaume de Lestrange, and their partner Simon Lassalle opened up a micro-brewery called Les Travailleurs de l’Amer. In their incredible chrome vats, master brewer David Cosseron works with English ales, 100% Normand malts and British hops. Each label is dedicated to a (real) “toilers of the sea” (or a “travailleur de la mer” as they would say in French): the shipwreck chaser Matthias Dufour and his red IPA with zero bitter notes; the shellfish fisherman Félix Testi and his citrusy, highly aromatic white ale; the sailboat captain Christian Mabire and his light stout…. To go with all those beverages, the new Cherbourg flagship shop produces and serves rillettes made with seafood from the English Channel: red mullet with dill and amber ale, mackerel in stout… // J.P.

Hidden gem: The deliciously refreshingly lager dedicated to the oceanographer and sea rescuer Paul Dufour (€3.30 for 330 ml).
