Go west! West of the Cotentin region that is, facing the beach that runs along the seaside town of Pirou, where the West Bar cabana proudly shows off its wind-battered driftwood sign. Running this little slice of paradise, Edward Delling-Williams, chef and owner of Le Presbytère (Le Fooding’s Best Country Pub of 2023, located a few kilometers away), teamed up with Nicolas Tonnard, who honed his skills at Edward’s restaurant. This talented duo keeps the summer crowds’ thirst quenched with craft beers, like Utah Beer IPAs or Liberty Road lagers from the Brasserie de Sainte-Mère-Église (€7 for 330 ml) or La Moussette white ale (€9 for 500 ml), in addition to the tap of the day (€3.50 to €5 for 250 ml). But the menu also features farm-fresh hard cider by Claids (€6 for 330 ml), natural wines (including Bullula, a pet’ nat’ from Léo Charruau at €5 a glass) and local soft drinks (homemade elderflower and hibiscus kombucha, Jus de Rêve juice, Drakkar sodas, €3 to €4.50) which you can sip while lounging in the deck chairs. And if you’re hungry, there are a few small plates that can be whipped up on request (beets in yogurt sauce, country terrine… €5 to €7). Bonus: watch the sun set over the sea as people play pétanque. // Lili Michel
