THE STORY: We would love to find places like this more often: a majestic 18th-century hôtel particulier tucked away on a narrow street in La Ciotat, boasting priceless views of the town’s historic harbor. Hidden away by a seafoam-green carriage door lie four apartments, thoughtfully renovated by La Maison de Famille, the hospitality group behind a dozen other properties in La Ciotat, as well as in Dieppe and even Venice. Want a closer look? On the ground floor, the apartment named “Simone voit la Mer” is 50 m2 retreat centered around a double bedroom, a cozy living area with a big Chesterfield armchair and a sunshine-yellow bathroom with a walk-in shower. One floor up, the apartment known as “Le Musée” has a similar layout, with the double bed tucked into an alcove, and a fully equipped kitchen. The slightly smaller “Balcon sur la Mer” apartment shows off its tomette tile floors, marble fireplace and furniture made in La Ciotat, plus a south-facing balcony. On the second floor, you’ll find the showstopping “La Terrasse” apartment, a 110 m2 space with all the essentials, plus two double bedrooms with views of the sea… In short, there’s plenty of tantalizing options to choose between! Double rooms starting at €120 a night (two-night minimum stay).
TOILETRIES: Honey-infused savon de Marseille soap, locally made shampoo and body wash.
BREAKFAST: Not included, but the kitchens in the first- and second-floor apartments allow you to whip up whatever you’re craving. Or you could enjoy your first coffee of the day down by the harbor – not a bad way to start the morning!
LITTLE LUXURY: The rooftop terrace on the second-floor apartment, complete with two south-facing deckchairs, is the perfect spot to bask in the sun.
