THE STORY: Florence, a vegetarian chef, and Bernard, a theater designer, opened up this little paradise of hospitality in their Ardèche home at the foot of the Cévennes mountains. Above monsieur’s pottery studio, you’ll find two bedrooms with austere décor. The first, named Walden after the beloved book by Henry David Thoreau, was dreamt up like a chic cabana, with a bed upstairs; the other, called Bowen, is a reference to the island off the coast of Vancouver, with delicate tone-on-tone details, terra cotta floors and a light chestnut wood wall. Bedrooms starting at €85 a night (minimum two-night stay from April to September), pool and bird songs included.

TOILETRIES: Organic soap, shampoo and body wash.
INTERNET: Wifi (free).
BREAKFAST: Included, with coffee or local tea, bread, jams, pancakes, homemade cakes and brioche French toast, cheese from nearby, granola and fruit juice – all served on homemade ceramics, of course.
LITTLE LUXURY: The picnic baskets made with healthy local products, which Florence prepares upon request.
