A terracotta facade, colorful little tables, a light wood counter at the back of the space… The adorable pastry shop run by François Josse (ex-Anne-Sophie Pic and Le Taillevent) certainly catches the eye, located between an organic grocery store and a gas station in this commercial zone at the edge of Vans. This is where the pastry chef decided to make his Familha, in the native region of his wife Emmanuelle Daymier, giving the people of Chambonas the bakery that they’d been missing for so long. In addition to bread made with organic flour milled by the Meunerie de Marion and prepared with natural levain, perfectly buttery and flaky viennoiseries and incredible focaccias, there’s a wide range of exquisite individual pastries to choose from, at very affordable prices: pistachio and raspberry éclairs, fraisier cakes, the house’s signature chocolate cake, and more. // Lili Michel
THE HIDDEN GEM: Véro, the fraisier cake made with stewed strawberries and whipped Madagascar vanilla ganache over a crispy almond cookie base (€4.50).
