Making a gentle racket? Le Baraquilles has turned it into an art form, quietly livening up this little lane in the center of Die with the steady glug-glug of bottles being poured by Maxence Brumagne (formerly in agriculture) and Benjamin Pujol-Demurger (founder of Le Pestel cinema-café). Behind the weathered wooden frontage lies a gleaming zinc bar, patterned floor tiles and photography exhibitions – when the space isn’t hosting a film screening or a pass-the-hat gig. Together, they almost steal the spotlight from the neatly lined-up bottles and beers just waiting to be pulled. One piece of advice: don’t overlook the food, which includes burrata with wild garlic, ravioles gratin and a selection of local cheeses. · Bianca Petty
