THE STORY: A former shelter for young women in Saint-Malo that’s been transformed into a really cool family home. You won’t find any unnecessary fuss or hospitality school manners, just the old-fashioned charm of the big bourgeois houses along the coastline in Rohmer. There are sixteen simple bedrooms (colorful hand-crocheted blankets, high quality bedding), although sometimes they can be a little skimpy (avoid the attic rooms), spread out over two villas: one that gives out onto the garden, the other onto the Sillon beach. And don’t forget about the straw hut on the beach where you can enjoy a peaceful cocktail, in between two spa treatments at the nearby thermal baths. Double rooms starting at €69 a night.

MINI-BAR: No, but the hotel has a bar and a restaurant.
