Back in 2016, Olivier Jacobs (the mixologist-forager behind the iconic Jigger’s cocktail bar) and his bartender Ben Bruyneel gave this former neighborhood bistro a massive makeover, decking it out with a brick facade, a zinc-topped bar with various taps and a big corner terrace. It’s a serious plus for the outskirts of Ghent, thanks to its popular menu that really hits the mark. The night we went, we opted for all of the following: tasty pork and beef meatballs glazed in a gingery soy sauce and served with pickled horseradish; hearty parmigiana; pearly white cod with some lovely spinach, parsnip purée, white wine sauce and mustard seeds… And a classic Sunday brunch, with heartwarming classics: eggs Benedict or cheesy egg muffins; smoked salmon; potato salad; yogurt and homemade granola, all served buffet-style. And then we linger – we are in a café after all. // Casimir
