Good food is making a comeback on the Île de Ré! You can thank chef Philippe Tredgeu (ex-Entredgeu in Paris) and his partner Marie Foulon for that, who brought an institution moored along the Saint-Martin harbor back to life. Of Le Serghi of yesteryear, all that remains is the solid wood bar at the entrance of this new iteration with greige and white walls, contemporary light fixtures and comfortable banquette seating. Philippe’s cuisine plays the local and seasonal card: the day we went for lunch, we had a delicate slice of marinated smoked salmon, sushi rice and a soy-sesame sauce; beautifully fried artichoke over a bed of eggplant hummus; cheeky roasted langoustines with a divine risotto, bisque jus, chorizo and piquillo peppers; melt-on-the-tongue tender breaded pollack with a buttery sauce, lemon, parsley and sautéed vegetables; and creamy vanilla rice pudding with granola and salted caramel for a comforting dessert straight out of your childhood. A real treat! // Louise Delange
